Who we Are
A little while back I began to write some goals. Goals I had for my personal life and goals I had for the ministry here at CLC. I was trying to create a 5 year and 10 year plan. The purpose of this was to keep me focused on the direction God is giving me in my life. This is vitally important to me because I am massively ADD. I often cannot focus on anything and a recent event I was able to attend helped me realize how important it was to regain focus.
One of those ideas that God gave me was to see a center of outreach pour out of our church here at CLC. We already have an incredible school and I love what God is doing in our services. I just kept thinking that there is something driving us as a church body to get outside our walls. So I began to go for walks in Layton neighborhoods, just praying and seeking God for different apartment complexes and areas. The hope was that God could show me those who are in need in our city and God showed me a lot. I must say though that even as I began to pray for this I still only saw this as a 5 year plan. That is until God began to open doors.
In the past month we have seen major progress move forward in something that I thought was in our distant future. A trailer has been provided. Food donations are beginning to come in. Clothing Donations are coming in. Tons of people offering to come out and help. We have off site storage for food now. So I thought I would take a moment to let you know exactly what our plan is.
Through the Love my City Project we have decided to adopt several apartment complexes and a mobile home community in Layton. Our plan is once a month to bring an event to their neighborhood where we will offer a free meal, food donations, free clothing, free haircuts for kids, kids games, neighborhood cleanup and so much more. Our first event will be at Park Village Mobile Home Community in Layton, on main street. This event will be on Saturday, May 23rd from 10am to 2pm. Through our contacts at Park Village, God provided the opportunity for us to do an outreach event at one of the apartment complexes I walked and prayed around. That will be at Skyline apartments in Layton (on fairfield) on June 27th.
The plan is to get connected to more apartment complexes and areas. Through our connections we will offer outreach events once a month. During the holiday months we may theme the events and do a Free School Supplies Day (Aug./Sept), Trunk or Treat (Oct.), Thanksgiving Meals (Nov.), Christmas gifts for kids (Dec.). There is so much we can honestly do and I know that there are so many great people here at CLC and all over the area who we can partner with to Love our City. Who knows? Maybe one day we will have a location somewhere for people to get clothing, food, and a hot meal. All I know is that this is what God has called us as a church to do.
In Matthew 25:35- 40 it says, “35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
This is the Heart of God and this is our Mission. As a church we believe we are here to Love God, Love People, and Serve Others. I believe through The Love My City Project we will accomplish that mission. So let us know if you want to be a part of this. You can Volunteer, you can share this with someone else, and you can donate (food, clothing, or money). There is so much that you can be a part of. I just ask you to pray for God’s direction in this for us because we need your prayers. My prayer is that God would stir your heart for the lost and we use this as an opportunity to love people as Jesus would have.
